16. My competitor has a Flash website. Shouldn’t I have one, too?
 

When you shop online for a book, do you want to be entertained with flashy animations? Are you impressed? Or, are you frustrated by weird navigation devices that only web designers can figure out?

More and more, we’re hearing people say that they just want to get in, get what they want, and get out. They want websites that load quickly with clear methods of navigation, so they can get the information they want and be on their way.

Some websites and web designers use Flash as a way of showing off, building Flash videos in essence, and we think that’s an inappropriate use of resources in most cases. 

That being said, Flash animation if used properly, can make some types of business stand out from the crowd.  Perhaps an entertainment business like a DJ or Band would be well served to have a quick Flash intro, whereas a Funeral Home or an Investment Company would not. 

The bottom line:  some Flash - Good!  Too much Flash - Bad!
