7. What is a domain name and how do I get one?

A domain name – www.yourcompany.com – is a lot like your telephone number. If someone wants to visit your website, they type the URL (your web address) into their browser.

Domain registration pricing have dropped dramatically from the early days – expect to pay less than $10 a year for most domain extensions.

If you use anyone else besides Darn Cheap Domains, make sure that you read the fine print, some “deals” require that you host the domain with the registering company.
